Cycle Costa Rica for World Cancer Day

If you’re going to take a trip away, it should be to one of the happiest countries on the planet, right? Costa Rica comes in at number 12 on that list and you can experience its beauty on two wheels with Teens Unite this year.

To celebrate World Cancer Day on 4th February, we’re asking our supporters to sign up to one of our challenges for 2018, so there’s no better time to put your name down for our Costa Rica cycle than now.

Renowned for its coffee, which is amongst the best in the world and its abundance of volcanoes, our 280km cycle through Costa Rica will be the trip of a lifetime.

This unforgettable adventure begins from the moment you touch down in Juan Santamaria International Airport. You can start to really get to know the rest of the team and the guides you will be cycling alongside over the next five days with a welcome dinner, before getting in a good night’s sleep.

The first day of cycling will take you through the coffee lined Orosi Valley before heading down the Reventazon River Valley and ending with stunning views of Turrialba valley and its smoking volcano in the background.

The views on day two will take your breath away, with the Turrialba volcano on one side and endless mountains of rainforest on the other. The cycle continues towards the lively Caribbean town of Siquirres, before ending the day with a boat crossing of the Pacuare River and glamping under the stars.

Day three of the cycle will steer you through miles of banana plantations, before tucking into lunch at a local restaurant and pushing on towards the town of Guapiles.

Next morning, your journey continues along the Sarapiqui River; the Sarapiqui region is known for its lush vegetation and production of corn, coffee, cocoa and cardamom. You’re in for a treat tonight as the lodge is set in the rainforest on the banks of Sarapiqui River.

The end is now in sight and the last day of pedalling passes through the San Carlos agricultural area famous for its fruit plantations. This may be the longest day of cycling; but possibly the most exciting as you head towards the active Arenal volcano. Wow!

The finish line is in sight as you reach La Fortuna, where you will celebrate your huge accomplishment and the difference you have made to the lives of young people battling with a cancer diagnosis.

The trip takes place on 17th – 25th November 2018. Taking part requires a deposit of £250 and a minimum sponsorship amount of £3,000. This includes your flights, accommodation, meals, bike leaders and guides, airport transfers, bike hire and doctor.
