Activity Stay 2018 - Day Two

Whether art, sport or music is your forte, there was something for everyone on day two of our Activity Stay!

We kicked off our day with a tie-dye workshop, where we made our own funky t-shirts. The technique was a little tricky at times, so it was great to see all the young people working as a team to help each other, and we were especially grateful for our volunteer Spyroulla who lent a helping hand too.

Once we’d left our t-shirts to dry out, we got into our teams ready to compete in the Sports Day activities! Each team competed in an egg and spoon race, sack race, obstacle course, bean bag relay, a water relay and ‘expulsion’ – a hilarious brand new Sports Day game, where the player has to rapidly remove hundreds of ping pong balls from a box (it’s harder than it sounds!).

After an intense Sports Day, we had some much needed time to chill out and play card games, giant Jenga and Connect 4. Volunteers Nikki and Amanda took care of the BBQ, sizzling sausages and flipping burgers for us all to tuck into, followed by Spyroulla’s famous homemade brownies, which are absolutely divine!

In the evening, we had an extra special workshop, which has been highly anticipated by the young people that have joined us this week. MC Zani from beatboxing champions the Beatbox Collective, who has worked with the likes of Justin Timberlake, came along to teach us how to beatbox! After learning a brief history of beatboxing, we took part in a rhythm game to learn the technique of isolating different parts of the body – a key skill in beatboxing. Then came a few mini performances and freestyling, and a group performance using a range of noises and techniques. There was lots of laughter and smiles all round, and teens Yassine and Kerry were absolute beatboxing stars!

Don't forget to follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to see what we're up to!
